This week, Berlin hosted the 2013 IFA, Europe’s biggest trade show for consumer technology. And this year saw many new and eagerly anticipated products launched. So let's run through the biggest announcements.

Samsung had a busy few days at this year’s IFA with the unveiling of their Galaxy Note 3, their new Galaxy Gear smartwatch and a new 10-inch tablet, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1.
First up. let's talk about the Galaxy Note 3, the latest in the range of Galaxy Note 'phablets'.

Samsung-Galaxy-Note-III-leakAvailable from the end of September, the Note 3 will run on the latest Android 4.3 Jellybean and will feature a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen, an S-pen with enhanced features and a 13-megapixel camera. The Galaxy Note 3 will also boast a slimmer design, a faux-leather back and will come in a choice of Jet Black, Classic White and Blush Pink (ooh!) The Note 3 also currently takes the title of the most powerful smartphone on the market with its octa-core processor and 3GB of RAM; it will also be 4G compatible.

Also launched at IFA was Samsung’s Galaxy Gear smartwatch which will be available in 6 colours and features a 1.9-megapixel camera which can be used for photos or filming in HD video. The Galaxy Gear is only compatible with a Samsung Android handset running on Android 4.3 and is great for keeping an eye on your emails and taking calls using the watch face to relay calls. It also sports a music player, a pedometer and comes with a whole host of built-in apps.

Sony-Xperia-Z1-lifestyle-004But it wasn't just about Samsung - Sony chose the IFA to launch their impressive Sony Xperia Z1 flagship smartphone (previously rumoured to be called the Sony Honami and Sony Xperia i1).Also due to be released in September, the Sony Z1 is water resistant and dust proof and boasts a 5-inch screen with Triluminous Display technology which gives razor sharp and clear images. The Xperia Z1’s video playback has a fantastic movie app which also displays previously viewed video which comes in very handy. The Z1 is powered by a super-fast 2.2GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor and comes with 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of storage which can be increased thanks to the microSD slot and packs in a 3000mAh powerhouse of a battery. One of the Sony Xperia Z1’s best features is the 20.7-megapixel camera with a superb range of features including Timeshift Burst, Panorama and a choice of special effects.
