Samsung set the trend for launching variants of their flagship phones (think S4 Zoom and S4 Active) and it looks like HTC are going to follow their lead with 2 variants being rumoured for the HTC One M8 - the HTC One M8 Ace and the HTC One M8 Prime.

htc_one_m8_ace_red_blue_rendersThe speculation is that the HTC One M8 Ace will be the budget version. Budget versions usually have less impressive specs but it looks like the M8 Ace will have specs that are pretty much the same as the One M8. However, instead of the metal design of the One M8, the One M8 Ace is likely to sport a plastic or polycarbonate curvy design.

It's rumoured to also come with a 5-inch 1080p display with Full HD and will be powered by a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. HTC fans will also be pleased to hear that the M8 Ace will also feature HTC's popular BoomSound speakers, one of the main differences is that that it will not include a second camera on the rear. It's expected that the HTC One M8 Ace could be launched on the 3rd June.

htc_one_m8_primeThe other new smartphone HTC are rumoured to be bringing out is the HTC One M8 Prime - a souped up and bigger handset than the HTC One M8. Images posted online seem to show that the new M8 Prime will be waterproof and that it can be used to take photos and record video underwater. The display is expected to be 0.5-inch bigger than the original M8 with a screen of 5.5-inches and it's also likely to wow with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels which gives it 534 pixels per inch.

The processor is rumoured to be the faster 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 and it's thought to include 3GB of RAM. HTC are thought to have developed a newer version of their Sense user interface, Sense 6.5. There are also reports that the M8 Prime will be able to support 6 LTE which in theory (if local networks are up to it) is capable of download speeds of an incredible 300Mbps.

The M8 Prime could come with dual rear cameras like the One M8 possibly with a 18-megapixel lens and the front-facing camera could be the same as the One M8 at 5-megapixels. With regard to a launch date, we could see the M8 Prime sometime in the Autumn - possibly in September.
