Another 10 Things You Didn't Realise You Could Do with Your iPhone 5
Following on from our ’10 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With Your iPhone 5’ blog back in December, we’ve been busy sussing out a load more things you probably didn’t know you could do with your trusty iPhone 5. Here are another 10 of our favourites:
Upload a photo onto Facebook or Twitter direct from the camera
The latest updates to Apple’s iOS system means that social media is more integrated than ever. Go into the camera app gallery, choose the photo you want to upload and press the arrow button to bring up the Share menu and you add it to the social media of your choice.
Do a super-speedy status update from the Notification bar
Arguably the quickest way to update your social media status when you’re busy. Swipe down from the notifications bar to pull up a drop-down tweet box or post on Facebook using the ‘tap to post’ bar.
Add a second email account
If you want to set up a new email account or have separate ones for business and pleasure, you can add an additional email account so you can access all your emails at any one time. Go into the main Settings menu and move down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and you will find the option to ‘Add Account’.
Jump to Top of Page
Handy if you need to make a quick call or check out details in your browser. Tap at the top of your iPhone 5 screen, next to the clock, to quickly navigate yourself to the top of a page.
Take a screenshot
Perfect if you want to remember a web page or check some more info on it later, all you need to do is press the Home button and the Power button at the same time and a screenshot image will be automatically saved in the camera gallery.
Do Not Disturb
If you just want to switch off for a while or don’t want your phone to wake up little ones when they’re napping, the Do Not Disturb mode will stop notifications coming through. If there are some contacts that you need to be in touch with all the time then you can also enable only their notifications to come through. Go into the main Settings menu, find the Do Not Disturb option and adjust the Notifications options to customise your settings.
Use Street View on Google Maps
Search for the location you want to view, this will bring up a pop-up location menu at the bottom of your iPhone 5 screen. Drag it up to expand the information available for your location and it will bring up the option to look at it on Street View (assuming there is Street View info already set up for the location you’re wanting to look at!)
Customise your vibrate alerts
To make it easier to identify between your notifications, you can choose from seven pre-set vibration alert sounds or you can program in your own version. Go into the Sounds menu in Settings and chose the sound and vibration for your different notifications.
Saving Web Images
Brilliant for saving images from your browser if you’ve spotted something you want to buy later or want to share. Hold your finger on the image you want to save until a menu appears, choose the ‘save image’ option and hey presto the image is saved in your gallery.
Use the Volume button to take a photo
As well as the touchscreen; you can also use the ‘volume up’ button as your camera shutter. It will even work if you’re using a Bluetooth headset to in effect set up a remotely controlled camera shutter button!
