Blackberry Z30 – Our Review

Z30-front_pr248_1Coming soon to Chitter Chatter is the rather lovely BlackBerry Z30. In our opinion, the Z30 is the best of the new BlackBerrys which operate on BB10.

The BlackBerry Z30 is also the largest BlackBerry smartphone to date with a 5-inch all-touch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720, which gives it 295 pixels per inch. The new AMOLED technology gives it an extremely sharp looking screen with great colour tones, contrast and excellent screen viewing from all angles.

The Z30 is just over 140mm in height and is fairly slim at 9.4mm in depth. It also has the look and feel of a premium handset with its robust aluminium and glass weave design, which is twice as strong as plastic, and its tactile soft-touch casing on the rear of the phone.

The BlackBerry Z30 runs on the latest version of the BlackBerry 10 operating system – 10.2  – which means it’s faster and has quicker response times than BlackBerry’s previous handsets. In terms of its processor, the Z30 is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon 1.7GHz S4 CPU with 2GB of RAM; it also has a decent 16GB of on-board storage and the option to increase this further with a microSD card. The2880mAH battery gives a very impressive 18 hours or talk time or up to 25 hours of mixed usage.

The rear 8-megapixel camera is similar to the one on the BlackBerry Z10 and boasts a 5 element F2.2 lens, improved back and side illumination for low light conditions, 1080p HD video and the excellent Time Shift mode so get the best photos from your handset. The front camera has 2-megapixels and 3 x digital zoom as well as image stabilisation and 720p HD video recording.

The BlackBerry Z30 comes with a great range of pre-loaded apps which includes BBM video and a new Priority Hub to keep track of all your notifications such as your social media updates, BBM messages, emails and texts. As with other BB10 handsets, the Z30 also has ‘BlackBerry Balance’ technology which enables you to create two separate profiles to keep your personal and work notifications and documents entirely and securely separate.

A new feature for the Z30 is the option to attach your Z30 handset with a micro HDMI cable so you can wirelessly stream presentations onto a big screen. The very useful ‘Documents To Go’ app allows you to view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint when you’re out and about with any changes formatted in the way you want to view them regardless of what device you share your documents with.
