The clocks go forward tonight, the weather is getting warmer and we've been enjoying a bit of sunshine which means that Spring is finally here. Fruit Garden (iOS, Android £1.49) - what better way to brighten up your garden with the added bonus of some nice and healthy fruit to eat at the end of it. If you're a novice fruit grower or want to expand the types or varieties of fruit in your garden, this app is full of useful information on when and how to grow, harvest and how to get your soil ready before you start. There's also a really useful calendar so you can keep an eye on what jobs need to be done at what time of the year.
Vegetable Garden Guides (iOS £1.49) - growing your own veg can be pretty straight forward as well as saving some money and encouraging you to try some new things. This great app takes you through all the stages of planting, growing and harvesting a wide selection of vegetables and herbs. Packed full of handy tips and advice, it can help you decide what crops are best for your garden, what and when to plant and how to keep pests and weeds at bay.
Bugs Count Pocket ID Guide (iOS, Android - Free)
This free bug app has a dual purpose. Created on behalf of the Natural History Museum, it has lots of information to aid with identification of common bugs found in gardens and green spaces throughout the UK. As well as being a handy resource for gardeners to try and protect their fruit, veg and plants you can also get the kids involved with the Opal Bugs Count survey run by the Natural History Museum also on the app!
Landscapers Companion (iOS £5.49)
If you're looking to revamp your outdoor space, this app has probably the most comprehensive database of plants out there. With more than 26,000 types of plants, shrubs, and trees, the app is popular with professional gardeners and landscapers thanks to its in-depth information and advice. The app features great search functionality so you can find plants according to various criteria such as sunlight exposure, flowering times, average height and width and growth rate.
RHS Grow Your Own (iOS - free)
Written by the RHS gardening experts, the app helps you to choose fruit and veg to grow in your garden according to your gardening experience, available space and rather handily the time you have available. Ideal for those who are looking for easy to grow crops and don't have hours to dedicate to tending their plants. It's also provides tips on any problems you may encounter and specific varieties of recommended crops.
