Samsung Galaxy S20 vs iPhone 11 | Which is best?
Samsung and Android or iPhone 11 with iOS? We help you decide.
Having just announced the much anticipated Galaxy S20, Samsung is clearly intent on giving Apple a run for its money. The latest iteration of the Samsung Galaxy model smartphone features top tech in just about every aspect; but then, so does Apple's iPhone 11, which was released this past September. Let's take a detailed look at the specs of the Samsung Galaxy S20 vs iPhone 11 and see who comes out on top.
Samsung S20 vs iPhone 11: Design
As you might expect from a top-end flagship phone, both the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the Apple iPhone 11 look fantastic. The S20 beats out the iPhone just slightly when it comes to slimness, measuring 7.9mm compared to 8.3mm for the iPhone 11 and 8.1mm for the iPhone 11 Pro. The iPhone does come in slightly more colours, though, which might be important for users who like to customise their handsets or have something that looks a bit different.
Both phones are waterproof to level IP68, which means you can safely drop your handset into a 1.5-metre deep swimming pool and leave it there for half an hour without causing any damage. Not that we'd advise that, but hey, it's nice to know your phone should be safe if it takes a plunge.
Samsung S20 vs iPhone 11: Display
The S20 is the clear winner when it comes to display. The S20 packs a 6.2-inch quad HD+ AMOLED display, while the iPhone 11 offers only a 6.1-inch LCD. With both a bigger screen and better resolution, the Galaxy S20 will definitely be the better phone for enjoying clean, crisp visuals and HD videos. That's not to say the iPhone 11 doesn't look great, but if you want very best display, it's the S20 to go for.
Samsung S20 vs iPhone 11: Camera
Both the S20 and the iPhone 11 Pro have three rear cameras, each with ultra-wide, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses. However, the S20 boasts a better telephoto lens at 64MP compared to the iPhone's 12MP lens, and the iPhone 11 standard model doesn't feature a telephoto lens at all. This being said, the iPhone's 12MP front-facing camera beats out the 10MP front-facing camera included with the S20, so the iPhone might be the favoured choice for keen selfie photographers.
Samsung S20 vs iPhone 11: Battery Life
Another clear lead for the Galaxy here, which is powered by a 3000mAh battery when compared to the iPhone 11's 3110mAh battery. If battery longevity is important for you, this could be a deal-breaker - though it's worth bearing in mind that with features like 5G (on the S20 5G version) and a faster screen refresh rate, the S20's bigger battery might not translate to longer battery life in reality. And Apple's iOS system is pretty efficient.
Samsung S20 vs iPhone 11: Under the hood
The Samsung Galaxy S20 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and 12GB RAM, while the iPhone 11 features the Apple A13 Bionic processor with 4GB of RAM. Both processors are excellent and well suited to even the most demanding apps and games. The difference in RAM may not be as much as it first appears, since the Android OS generally requires more RAM than iOS does to function at the same pace. Even so, 12GB of RAM is a lot for a phone, so you're likely to experience faster loading apps and quicker multi-tasking.
In terms of connectivity, Samsung is just in the lead, but only with it's 5G version of the S20. There is a 4G S20 available too as Samsung recognises that 5G is still rolling out across the world and not everyone has it in their town yet. Regardless, this does mean that the S20 will stay 'current' for a little longer than the iPhone 11 when it comes to maximum network speed.
Hopefully that's helped to understand a bit more about the two devices. Both are excellent choices and it's likely that if you only ever use Android phones, then the Samsung S20 is the phone for you. iPhone fans, you'll no doubt be really pleased with the iPhone 11, especially if you're coming from an iPhone 6, 7 or 8 - it's a huge leap in performance.
