Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini Review
Exciting news for fans of Samsung's smartphones as they have just unveiled the latest of their Mini handsets, the Samsung S5 Mini. Less than a year after Samsung launched the S4 Mini, the S5 Mini is a fantastic smartphone for those looking for a smaller and more compact mobile phone but who do not want to have to make do without decent specs. Here's the lowdown on the newest Mini which we expect to be available in the next month or so.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will be available in 4 great colour choices - Shimmery White, Charcoal Black, Copper Gold and Electric Blue. It offers a slightly larger screen than last year's S4 Mini - a 4.5-inch (720 x 1280) HD Super AMOLED display. Like the full size Galaxy S5, the S5 Mini is dust and water resistant (IP67 standard) and it shares a similar design. As is usual with mini versions of smartphones, it's not quite as slim line as the original S5 measuring just over 9mm in depth.
Samsung have included several of the new apps and features of the S5 in the S5 Mini, in particular the fingerprint scanner and heart-rate monitor for those who like to keep an eye on their health and fitness. On the rear of the S5 Mini is an 8-megapixel camera with an LED flash and the front-facing snapper delivers a very decent 2.1-megapixels.
In terms of power, the S5 Mini comes with a quad-core 1.4GHz processor together with 1.5GB of RAM and an excellent 2100mAh battery. It will run on the latest Android KitKat 4.4 operating system and will include Samsung's TouchWiz user interface. There's also 16GB of onboard memory which can be expanded up to 64GB thanks to the MicroSD slot.
As well as the S5 Mini, Samsung are also thought to be bringing out another smartphone in their S5 series, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Sport. The S5 Sport is likely to share many features of the original S5 smartphone such as a 5.1-inch screen and 16-megapixel camera but the design is expected to be different with a more rugged and more robust look with buttons on the front and rubber grips.
