On the first day of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung has announced the new Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus phones. The phones boast advanced camera technology, new animated emojis and improvements to the Bixby assistant.
Let’s run through everything Samsung has packed into the new phones and see what’s changed from the S8.
First off the S9 will come in three colours: Midnight Black, Coral Blue and a new colour Lilac Purple. For the screen the S9 keeps similar specs to the S8 with a 5.8 inch super Amoled curved infinity screen and a bigger 6.2 inch screen for the S9 Plus.
There’s plenty of storage available with 4GB RAM and 64GB of memory for the S9 and 6GB RAM and 128GB for the S9 Plus. Both phones have an SD slot for extra storage. In terms of power, the phones comes with enhanced Samsung octa-core processors.
Sound is improved with AKG stereo speakers which support Dolby Atmos and the headphone jack is retained. The placement of the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone has moved and it now sits in a better spot below the camera.
The biggest improvements come in the camera with a super speed dual pixel sensor, dedicated processing power and memory to make your photos pro-quality. There is a great new slow-motion mode where you can create super slo-mo videos that capture 960 frames per second. The cameras feature dual apertures which aim to take photos like the human eye sees images and will help with low-light photography.
Samsung is taking on Apple’s animojis with its own AR emojis. This innovation captures a 3D image of your face including more than 100 features and you can customise hair, accessories and clothing and send the image to your friends.
Finally, the Bixby digital assistant has been enhanced with a new feature called Bixby Food that will give details and calories for food when you take a picture of it.
