Sony Xperia Z3 - Our Review
This month's annual IFA consumer electronics event in Berlin was awash with mobile phone manufacturers unveiling their latest smartphones. It was here that Sony launched two exciting new handsets, one of which is their new flagship smartphone the Sony Xperia Z3. The Xperia Z3 is already available to order from us here at Chitter Chatter so here's all the important stuff you need to know.
The Z3 will come in a choice of 4 colours which include the usual black and white as well as copper and silver green. Design-wise, the Xperia Z3 is fairly similar to the Z2 but with some useful upgrades such as the newly rounded corners which have a corner caps made from a tough nylon for added robustness. The Z3 also has a higher IP68 certified rating for increased water and dust resistancy compared to the IP58 rating for the Z2.
The display is the same size as the Z2 at 5.2-inches and with the same resolution 1080 x 1920 (424 pixels per inch). Sony have however improved the brightness of the display with the use of contrast enhancing technology which means that it's around 50% brighter than the screen on the Z2 and can be seem better in strong sunlight. The Z3 is significantly slimmer than the Z2 at only 7.3mm and around 10 grams lighter in weight.
The main rear camera is an impressive 20.7-megapixel ExmorRS which boasts a 25mm 'Sony G' wide-angle lens so you can fit more into your shots. In addition it has an ISO 12,800 setting to give you better results in low light conditions. The Xperia Z3 shoots video in 4K resolution and the SteadyShot technology has also been upgraded for smoother recording. There are also a few new camera modes with live streaming onto YouTube and 'Face-In' which films from both the rear and front cameras simultaneously capturing the users reaction to the what they are shooting!
If you're into gaming then you'll be pleased to know than the Z3 comes with Sony's 'Remote Play' which means you can use your handset to play PS4 games remotely on the move.
As well as some great enhancements to the design, Sony have also upped the power for the Z3 with a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which combines with a whopping 3GB of RAM. There's the option of 16 or 32GB of onboard memory expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card and a 3100mAh battery which should give around 2 days (!) of average use.
