iphone-6-or-00 (1)Speculation has been building for months on what we can expect from the new iPhone 6 in terms of design and features. As always, whenever a new Apple smartphone is on the horizon, the rumour-mill goes into overdrive with daily articles and leaks on how it will look and what can be done with it. Here's our roundup of the latest rumours.

So one of the burning questions is when are Apple likely to release their new flagship phone? At the moment, September 2014 seems to be cropping up as a likely launch date. There's also been a lot of speculation that Apple will unveil a larger phablet device as early as June, preceding the launch of the iPhone 6.

In terms of design, one thing for sure is that the iPhone 6 is likely to showcase a revamped look. The iPhone 5s and 5c were fairly similar in design to the rest of the iPhone smartphone series so a more radical redesign is expected for the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is anticipated to feature a larger screen with screen sizes from 4.7 inches to 5.7 inches being suggested or Apple could go a step further and release two iPhone 6 models in two different sizes. There's also a strong likelihood that the iPhone 6 will come with a Sapphire Crystal screen as Apple have recently gone into partnership with a company who manufacture Sapphire Crystal which should bring the costs down if its produced in larger quantities.

There's also been quite a bit of speculation concerning the look and slimness of the iPhone 6. Some reports alluded to a curved display but the latest is that the iPhone 6 is likely to feature a flat screen possibly with a bezel-free (edge to edge) display. In terms slimness, the most recent rumours point to a super-slim chassis which could be as little as 7.1mm thick.

There has been quite a bit of debate on what camera we can expect to see on the iPhone 6. There's some consensus that the main rear camera will be 8-megapixels in size (similar to the iPhone 5s) but with improved functionality. There have been reports this week that Apple could include a 'protruding' camera on the iPhone 6 as patents have recently been obtained for interchangeable camera lenses for mobile phones. Time will tell on that one!

The iPhone 6 is certainly going to see some upgrades to its hardware. It's been reported that it will boast a super powerful A8 chip which could give the new smartphone up to 30% more power and efficiency. The A8 chip is also expected to come with a quad-core 64-bit processor as well as high quality quad-core graphics. It's also likely to keep the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and it could include some new features such as a temperature and humidity sensor.
