The Lowdown on the new Blackberry Z10 and X10
We know plenty of our followers are Blackberry fans who are looking forward to the launch of the new BB10 devices on 30th January in New York.
You probably know that there are 2 devices planned - a full touchscreen device and one with a QWERTY keyboard. Well, we now know that the former is likely to be called the Z10 and the latter the X10.
Information on the X10 is limited but quite a bit of the spec of the Z10 has leaked out to various technology blogs so let's give you the low down.
The Z10 is said to sport a 4.2-inch 1280 x 768 screen - which makes it larger than the 4 inch iPhone 5 but considerably smaller than 4.8 inches of the Samsung Galaxy SIII. The processor will be a 1.5GHz TI OMAP 4470 dual core or a Snapdragon MSM8960, it will come with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and pack a 1800mAh removable battery.
The rear-facing camera will be a fairly standard (for high end smartphones, anyway) 8-megapixels with the front-facing version offering 2-megapixels and 1080p video. The video will come in handy as video calling will be one of the features offered by the new BB10 operating system.
What else to tell? Well, it's likely to come in 2 colour choices, black and white and have NFC built-in. Even better for those of you who have been eyeing the 5 times faster download speeds offered on 4G, the Blackberry 10 devices be available from us on EE's 4G network.
But surely the Blackberry 10 devices will launch with a dearth of apps? Not so. According to RIM’s chief marketing officer Frank Boulben there will be more than 70,000 BlackBerry 10 apps at the time of launch. OK - so that's not a patch on Google Play's and Apple's 700,000+, or even on Windows Phone Marketplace's 100,000, but it's not bad for starters.
Will there be any more surprises come the official launch on the 30th? It doesn't look likely given all that's leaked out so far, but you never know. Of course, will be reporting on the launch so you'll be amongst the first to know.
So what do you think to the Z10? Are you tempted?
