One Direction Scrapbook (iPad/iPhone, Free)

In honour of this week’s Brit Awards, this app is likely to go down well with teenagers and youngsters who are fans of boy band 1D. Available for the iPhone and iPad, it’s essentially a digital scrapbook where they can paste in pictures , photos and messages and share with their friends online.

Die Hard (iPhone/iPad, Free)

Another topical app with the latest Die Hard (A Good Day to Die Hard) film hitting cinema screens near you. The official mobile game of the movie involves unsurprisingly a good deal of running and shooting and features Bruce Willis’ on-screen son Jack McClane. Great fun and sure to be a big hit with Die Hard fans.

Twickets (iPhone, Free)

If you’re fed up with not being able to get your hands on tickets for music gigs and sports events or refuse to pay seriously inflated prices on ebay, this app is worth a look. Linked to the Twickets Facebook and Twitter circles, this app allows you to buy and sell spare or unwanted tickets for events in the UK at their face value only therefore bypassing the touts.

Finally a version for the iPad, this handy little app is like a virtual PA with lots of useful features to help you create reminders, notifications, lists and to keep track of your social life and contacts.

NewsWhip (Android, Free)

Keep up to date with the latest breaking news stories with the NewsWhip app which apparently scans ‘a billion’ people on Twitter and Facebook and gives you a news feed of the most relevant for a selection of 10 countries including the UK. You can choose which news categories you prefer to receive.

Gifted2you (iPhone, Free)

A useful app which you can use to remind yourself of dates of birthdays and special occasions and to search for online gifts which you can send to your friends and loved ones. You can choose whether to connect it to your Facebook (or not) to make life a bit simpler.

Auryn Ink (iPhone/iPad & Android, Varies)

Try your hand at some fine art with this digital painting app which really does feel like you’re painting with watercolours. With some great realistic effects such as watching your painting dry on the screen and a choice ofdifferent canvases to choose from, you can create your very own masterpiece.

NBA All-Star 2013 (iPhone/iPad & Android, Free)

Basketball fans will love this official NBA app which you can use alongside live NBA games to keep you up-to-date with the latest scores, watch all-action video clips as well as predicting results and casting your vote for the latest poll.

The Simpsons: Tapped Out (iPhone/iPad & Android, Free)

Now available in the UK, this entertaining Simpsons game needs you to rebuild the city of Springfield after hapless Homer accidentally causes a nuclear meltdown. You can have hours of fun rebuilding your very own Springfield whilst completing a variety of tasks to earn yourself some donuts. With super-sharp HD graphics and access to exclusive animated Simpsons scenes, this free app is a must-have for Simpsons fans.
