This Week’s Chitter Chatter – BBM, the Z30 and the iPhone 5c and 5s

BlackBerry’s popular messaging service BBM will be available to download for Android and iOS from this weekend. BBM was previously only available for BlackBerry users but it can now be downloaded for free from Google Play or Apple’s App Store therefore opening up the instant messaging service to millions of Android and iPhone smartphone users. BBM works in real time to send and receive instant message by constantly running in the background of your handset. As well as using BBM to chat to your contacts individually, it can also be used for group conversations, broadcast messaging to all of your contacts and sharing files and photos.

Blackberry_Z30Talking of Blackberry, earlier this week they unveiled their new Z30 smartphone which is expected to be available from next week. The Z30 is BlackBerry’s largest phone thanks to its 5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen and boasts 720 x 1280 pixels with a ppi of 294. The Z30 is powered by a Snapdragon 1.7Ghz quad-core processor and features a decent 2880 mAh battery which should keep it going for up to 24 hours of talk time. It comes with 16GB of storage which can be increased up to 64GB with a microSD card. It will run on BlackBerry’s latest 10.2 operating system which comes with ‘Priority Hub’ which essentially groups together all your most important notifications and messages including emails, social media updates and texts so you can easily access the stuff you need and use more often. The Blackberry Z30 also features an 8-megapixel rear facing camera, improved stereo speakers and new antenna technology to boost signals and prevent calls dropping out as well as providing faster data transfers.

Talking of new smartphones, Apple’s new iPhone 5s and 5c are now on sale and they seem to be proving as popular as previous handsets with large queues at Apple stores across the world. Apple’s flagship store in New York on 5th Avenue had almost 1500 people in the queue by 8am and there were reports of iPhone fans queuing for up for 10 days in Tokyo. Large queues were also in evidence along London’s Regent Street where the iPhone 5s sold out very quickly. The new gold iPhone 5s is proving to be extremely sought after with handsets being snapped up and many stores selling out within a matter of hours.
