sony-xperia-z4Sony took many by surprise this week with a fairly low-key launch for their Xperia Z4 smartphone which was released in their home-country of Japan. The Z4 has a similar design to the Xperia Z3 with a water and dust resistant capabilities and a 5.2-inch display. Measuring just 6.9mm slim, the Xperia Z4 is also lighter at 144 grams and it comes with 32GB of expandable onboard memory.

The rear camera on the Z4 also looks to be on the same lines as the Z3 with 20.7-megapixels, an Exmor RS sensor and LED flash. On the front is a 5.1-megapixel wide-angle camera complete with digital image stabilisation. Powered by the latest Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, the Xperia Z4 has 3GB of RAM and a decent-sized battery. We don't have information as yet on when the Z4 will be available in the UK so keep an eye on our blog for the latest news.

Talking of new smartphones, recent reports indicate that Microsoft will be unveiling two premium Windows 10 Lumia smartphones later on this year. The new top-end Lumia mobile phones have been dubbed as featuring 'bleeding edge' specs so we're expecting super high spec with top of the range displays and processors. The two new premium Lumia smartphones could be called the Microsoft Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL. The rumoured specs could include a 5-inch screen for the 940 and a 5.7-inch display for the 940 XL. On the rear, we could see a whopping 24-megapixel camera with a 5-megapixel camera on the front, an iris scanner, some sort of 3-D interaction and Pen support. We'll bring you more on the high-end Lumias as soon as we have it.

And it's not Sony and Microsoft launching new smartphones - we've heard rumours that Samsung will be launching a new Galaxy A8 smartphone soon. The A-series of mobile phones are Samsung's mid-range smartphones and the A8 looks likely to be the handset with the most impressive specs. The speculation is that the Samsung Galaxy A8 will boast a large 5.7-inch display and if reports are correct, it could also be pretty slim at just 5.9mm in depth and lightweight at 140 grams. The A8 could also come with an impressive 16-megapixel camera on the rear and a very decent 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It's thought that the Galaxy A8 will be powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB of RAM and that it will come with a large 3050mAh battery and 16GB of on-board storage. And finally, everyone loves a bit of IKEA don't they? Well we are certainly impressed with their latest plans to launch a range of new furniture which will be able to wirelessly charge smartphones and tablets. The gadget-charging furniture is set to include lamps, nightstands and portable disc-shaped charging platforms. Also joining IKEA's wireless charging range very soon will be some great smartphone adapters which will make your smartphone Qi wireless charging compatible. They have been designed with built-in adapters so that handsets which don't come with Qi wireless capabilities can be charged using the new IKEA wireless charging furniture range. The initial range of smartphone adapters will fit the Samsung Galaxy 3, 4 and 5 and the iPhone 4, 5 and 6. Simply plug one of these smartphones into the relevant adapter and you're ready to charge it wirelessly. The adapters are called VITAHULT and they are expected to be available in IKEA stores soon.
