Time was when a Motorola was the phone to have - just how cool were those RAZR fliphones? But, of course, that old duopoly of Motorola and Nokia was smashed in the late 'noughties' with the arrival of the iPhone.

Still, Motorola are still around and imbued with enthusiasm under their new owners, Google. So much soon that we've been hearing about a mysterious and cutting edge X phone for many months now. But the X phone has been nothing but unsubstantiated rumours - until last week, that is.  That's because at last week's D11 conference Motorola’s Dennis Woodside and Regina Dugan surprised their audience by confirming the existence of the new phone - which will be dubbed the Moto X.

Unfortunately, the revelations stopped at that point, so we don't know much about what the Moto X will do, other than that it will be pitched at the high end of the 'spec' range whilst being priced at the mid end of the market. Oh, and we also found out the handset will be 'contextually aware', that is it will anticipate what you want to do as soon as it comes out of your pocket/handbag.

If all that has whetted your appetite then we're afraid you've got a fair wait to get your hands on one - we won't be seeing the Moto X until Ocotober.

Samsung_Galaxy_S4_MiniTalking of new phones, one you will be able to get your hands on much sooner is the Samsung Galaxy SIV Mini, which was officially confirmed last week. A quick spec rundown for you - 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1,900mAh battery, 8- and 1.9-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras, 4G compatible plus it comes in white or black. More news on availability as soon as we hear it but July is looking likely.

Talking of July releases another manufacturer apparently lining up a new phone release for July is Nokia. Codenamed the EOS, the new handset looks like it's going to be modelled on the Lumia 920, with a 4.5-inch screen and a polycarbonate case. The main distinguishing feature will be it's 41 megapixel camera (yes, that's right - we didn't get the figures the wrong way round, it is 41 megapixels) with a Carl Zeiss lens and Nokia's new 'Pro Camera' application.

In fact, new phone rumours have been coming thick and fast in the past week with rumours of a new Huawei in the pipeline too. With the Ascend Mate 6.1 inch handset, Huawei clearly wanted to make sure they had the biggest handset on the market, and now with the new Ascend P6, it looks like they've come up with the thinnest at a positively waifish 6.2mm. The P6 hasn't been officially announced yet but we're expecting it to be at a Huawei event on 18th June.
